Shadi Maleki, a Geographic Information Science (GIS) Services Specialist focused on applied research to foster healthy and resilient people and places with the Translational Health Research Center at Texas State University, has been named a TRELIS-GS (Training and Retaining Leaders in STEM - Geospatial Sciences) fellow by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Maleki completed her doctorate in GIS at Texas State in 2021.

TRELIS is professional development for women in the geospatial sciences in higher education. TRELIS-GS instils the concept of a human capital trellis or scaffold of support and represents the reality of nonlinear career trajectories that move sideways, take leaps and do not follow a single upward ladder.

TRELIS builds leadership capacity and skills around the topics of career retention strategies, mentoring training, career transitions, technical professional development and work-life balance. While the primary TRELIS audience is academic professionals, TRELIS also recognizes and supports the women who move into and out of academic institutions at different career stages.

TRELIS is co-managed with the University of Maine and supported with funding from the NSF.
