Texas State theatre stages play about lost intimacy, 'Intimate Apparel'

Texas State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present Intimate Apparel April 4-9 in the Performing Arts Center.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. April 4-8, with a 2 p.m. matinee April 9.
Intimate Apparel follows Esther, a black seamstress in New York at turn of the 20th century, through her various attempts at fostering intimacy. The play will be produced under the direction of guest artist Melissa Maxwell, an award-winning playwright, actor and motivational speaker. Maxwell specializes in new play development, helping produce the world premiere of Judy Tate’s Slashes of Lights, Keith Josef Adkins’ Safe House and the American Slavery Project’s Unheard Voices, among other works.
Intimate Apparel was written by Lynn Nottage.
Maxwell is an alumna of Texas State’s Black and Latino Playwrights’ Conference, having attended 2009-2012 and 2015.
