About 40 Texas State University students and current and retired faculty and staff who passed away in the past year will be honored at the 30th Annual Bobcat Pause Memorial Service, sponsored by Student Foundation and the Dean of Students Office on April 12 at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom.

A reception will begin at 5:15 p.m., with the ceremony starting at 6 p.m. Bobcat Pause is an annual event hosted by the Student Foundation and Dean of Students office at Texas State.

“It is an honor for Student Foundation to host this event, which is student-run and a way for us to commemorate and remember members of the Bobcat family who have passed away,” said Leanna Mouton, Student Foundation executive committee member and Bobcat Pause director. “Although they are no longer with us, they will always be important to our university and the San Marcos community.”

The ceremony honors students and current and retired faculty and staff who have passed away during the previous year.

“This event instills the importance of remembrance for families and offers comfort to those who mourn the deceased” said Mariela Martinez, Student Foundation president.

2017 marks the thirtieth year of Bobcat Pause. The event includes an opening reception featuring memorial tables, roll call (reading of the names of Texas State family members who have passed away), and remarks by Texas State President Denise M. Trauth. Also included is a musical selection from the San Marcos High School Choral Department, under the direction of SMHS Choir Director Dawn Sheridan-Reinhuber and Brigitte Smith and Zach Wiggs. Student Foundation members will present a gift and flowers to family members during the roll call.
