Texas State hosting Youth Mariachi Program 2006

SAN MARCOS —The Arts Resource Team and the Texas State University-San Marcos School of Music has announced registration for beginning and advanced Mariachi instruction.

The courses are taught by award-winning members of the Texas State Mariachi Program under the direction of John Lopez, coordinator of multicultural music and director of the Salsa Del Rio and Mariachi Nueva-Generacion.

The classes are open to children ages five through 13 with no previous experience required. Class sizes will be small and include voice instruction as well as take home practice materials.

Registration is open Sept. 19 and 26 at 6:30 p.m. on campus at the Texas State Music Building Room 216 with a registration fee of $25. Classes are pro-rated according to registration period and the cost is $100 a month.

Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., with a final concert on Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Evans Auditorium with the Texas State Mariachi Nueva-Generacion.
