Largest cohort of Texas State University students and alumni selected as semifinalists for 2022-2023 Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Thirteen Texas State University students and recent alumni have been recommended by the Fulbright National Screening Committee as semifinalists for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program’s 2022-2023 competition cycle. This is the largest group of semifinalists for Texas State.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement.

Undergraduate students:

  • Jennifer Gutierrez – Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music, music studies and Spanish, minor in Honors
  • Genevieve Hauer – Bachelor of Arts, religious studies; minors in Honors, theatre, and Chinese

Graduate students:

  • Amy Biedermann – PhD, adult, professional, and community education
  • Amber Hullum – Master of Arts, public history
  • Christopher Le – Specialist in School Psychology, school psychology (autism) 
  • Sophia Mavroudas – PhD, applied anthropology 
  • Chisom Ogoke – Master of Fine Arts, creative writing (fiction) 
  • Laurel Parkhurst – Master of Education, elementary education (bilingual/bicultural) 
  • Dustin Sanchez – PhD, geography 
  • Alejandro Sobalvarro - Master of Fine Arts, creative writing (fiction)

Alumni:

  • Andrea Ivins – Master of Music, music (composition)
  • Cole McNabb – Bachelor of Arts, English & German
  • Shelby Sult – Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts, studio art (painting) and art history; minors in Honors and Spanish

Finalist announcements for the 2022-2023 Fulbright U.S. Student Program will begin in March and continue through the spring.
