Students from Texas State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) and members of the on-campus student organization, the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) received financial assistance from the SJMC to attend the PRSSA International Conference in San Diego, Calif.

Each year, the PRSSA International Conference offers PRSSA chapters from universities around world the chance to learn from experienced professionals about career opportunities in field of public relations.

This year, seven students from Texas State PRSSA attended the conference. They were sponsored by SJMC and received $500 from the “Rising STAR Travel Grant” through the Dean of Students Office.

One of the students in attendance was Maria Coraza, the VP of Digital Communication for Texas State PRSSA.

“Attending the conference in San Diego has opened my eyes to the future of public relations and given me the opportunity to connect with students from different parts of the world,” said Coraza. “I am beyond grateful! Texas State really wants to see their students succeed and they made such a difference.”

San’Tres Broussard, chapter president, was also in attendance and had a similar message of gratitude.

“The STAR grant and sponsorship from SJMC is the entire reason I was able to take advantage of such a great opportunity,” said Broussard. “I am extremely appreciative of the generosity of Texas State for funding my future and providing me with an experience I will never forget.”
