Winners of the Third Annual Texas State New Ventures Competition Announced

Book’t, Hummingbird Support Wear, and Plient Concrete are this year's winners of the Texas State University New Ventures competition. Teams compete for $100,000 in cash, services and in-kind contributions to assist in accelerating their market entry.

Eligible teams are required to have a unique scalable business concept and at least one contributing member who is a current student, faculty, or staff member or alumni of Texas State University.

Book’t is developing an app designed for booking hair care appointments for Black Women. Hummingbird Support Wear is developing high-waisted pelvic floor support underwear for women to provide gentle compression and promote wellness. Plient Concrete is a semi-rigid special concrete mixture that contains both scrap steel and recycled pavement aggregate in a patented formulation which is less expensive, lighter weight and higher performance than traditional concrete.

 Each winner will receive:

  • $20,000 in non-dilutive proof of concept funding
  • Free space at STAR One, Texas State’s technology incubator
  • Mentorship through New Ventures’ entrepreneurs-in-residence
