New Ventures Pitch Competition seeks to spark innovation at Texas State and beyond

SAN MARCOS – Texas State University will host the inaugural New Ventures Pitch Competition to foster inspiration and entrepreneurship between Texas State and other talent hubs in San Marcos, the Central Texas Innovation Corridor and beyond. 

The competition will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at STAR Park, 3055 Hunter Road. Applications are available at https://txstxl.typeform.com/to/cPKzlg. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, April 5.

New Ventures is led by the Materials and Applications Research Center (MARC) in collaboration with Texas State's I-Corps Site for Entrepreneurship, the Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization (MSEC) program, Service-Learning Excellence program and Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Park. 

Selected teams will receive free space for 12 months in the STAR One technology business incubator, an Entrepreneur in Residence advisor, internal pricing for use of university equipment and a one-time grant of up to $20,000 to support startup and growth activities.

Eligible teams should have 3-5 members, including at least one significantly contributing member who is a faculty, staff or student with a valid Texas State ID at the time of application. Teams must be developing a core business concept that is proprietary, sustainable and scalable. Teams should be beyond the planning stage, but pre-revenue. There is no preference for any specific technology, beyond the requirement that the technology must be proprietary and impactful.
