Dianna Morganti, a librarian with University Libraries at Texas State University, has been elected to serve as treasurer of the Texas Library Association (TLA), the largest state association of librarians in the U.S. As treasurer, Morganti will serve on the TLA executive board.

“I cannot separate my feelings about being elected from my feelings about the current pandemic we are experiencing,” Morganti said. “I am comforted that I have the opportunity to help bring our libraries, our association and our communities through this anxious and catastrophic time.

“TLA should be providing some leadership to both libraries and library professionals on how to get through, serve during and lead out of the current COVID-19 crisis,” she said. “When we're on the other side of it, TLA has the opportunity to help libraries evaluate lessons-learned and prepare differently for emergencies in the future. TLA has always led the way in emergency planning, and now we're all seeing both the benefits and importance of this planning.”

Established in 1902 to promote, support and improve library services in Texas, TLA has more than 6,000 members who work in public, school, academic and special libraries and who support educational institutions. Headquartered in Austin, the association is governed by a council made up of voting and non-voting members.
