Dr. Stella Silva named as Interim Chief Diversity Officer at Texas State
Texas State University named Dr. Stella Silva as the Interim Chief Diversity Officer/Director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (CDO) effective December 1, 2019. Prior to taking the interim role, Dr. Silva was Associate CDO within the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
Dr. Silva has been with Texas State for more than 22 years, first as Assistant Director and then as the Associate Director in the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion before joining the Office of Equity and Inclusion in January 2019.
Dr. Silva is also former President of the Hispanic Policy Network (HPN), and a member of the HPN Advisory Council. Throughout her time at Texas State, Dr. Silva has served on many university-wide councils and divisional committees, and has founded and advised several student organizations.
She presently also serves as Deputy Assistant ADA Coordinator at Texas State and an adjunct faculty member in the Student Affairs in Higher Education program.
Dr. Silva earned her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Educational Administration with a concentration in Higher Education and a graduate portfolio in Mexican American Studies. She earned her master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelors of Fine Arts from UT Austin.
She currently serves as vice chair of the Texas Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (TADOHE).
Dr. Silva’s areas of interest and research include social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion, multiculturalism, art and activism, and the experiences of marginalized students and communities. Dr. Silva is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Golden Key National Honor Societies and received the Texas State’s Mariel Muir Excellence in Mentoring Award in 2006 and the Excellence in Diversity Award in 2014.
