Arzu Ari, associate dean for research in the College of Health Professions and a professor in the Department of Respiratory Care at Texas State University, has been named chair of the International Education Recognition System (IERS).

As chair, Ari selected a team of 10 international scholars/faculty to help her fulfill the IERS mission.

"Our goal is to improve and standardize respiratory care education worldwide so that we can advance the safe, effective, and ethical practice of respiratory care all over the world," Ari said.

The IERS was developed by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and the International Council for Respiratory Care (ICRC). Currently, there are 28 country representatives at the ICRC. Ari represents Turkey on the council.

The ICRC is dedicated to advancing the safe, effective and ethical practice of respiratory care worldwide and works to promote the art, science, clinical practice and educational foundation required for the attainment of high-quality respiratory care outcomes in all nations. It encourages the development and dissemination of evidence-based standards of care according to the special needs and resources of individual nations as well as facilitating interaction among and between the allied health professions, nursing, the medical specialties, hospitals and clinics, service companies and industry in individual nations.

ICRC also provides educational resources for patients, caregivers and the general public in respiratory health promotion, disease prevention and rehabilitation as appropriate in individual nations and assists with the development and promulgation of safe and ethical practice standards and clinical protocols for respiratory care in member countries.
