Texas State names new Chair of Health Information Management

Alexander McLeod

Dr. Alexander McLeod has been appointed Chair of the Department of Health Information Management. 

Dr. McLeod holds a Ph.D. and M.B.A from the University of Texas at San Antonio and has worked in the field of health information management for 30 years. He was hired at Texas State University in fall 2015 as an assistant professor, receiving tenure and promotion to associate professor in fall 2018. He previously served as a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Trinity University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. 

Prior to joining academia, he served as an Emergency Medical Services manager for the City of San Antonio, implementing one of the first electronic medical records for an EMS system in Texas. While engaged in doctoral studies at UTSA, he participated in the National Security Agency’s certification process for the cyber security program. 

He has served as an editorial reviewer and review board member of many journals, participated as a track chair for numerous conferences, and published over fifty journal articles, conference proceedings, and other articles.
