Dr. Katie Kapurch, an assistant professor of English at Texas State University, published an article in CultureSonar about how rapper Lil Nas X's chart-topping song, "Old Town Road," reclaims the presence of black artists in country music and black cowboys in the West.
Dr. Kapurch is a scholar of The Beatles and other pop culture phenomena, and she explores issues of gender, sexuality, and race. Her research project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) explores African Americans' musical conversations with the Beatles.
