Denise Smart named '2019 Dean of the Year' by Beta Gamma Sigma

Denise T. Smart, dean of the McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University, has been named 2019 Dean of the Year by Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society.  

Nominated by Texas State University’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter, Smart received this award because of her support of students, chapter officers and the society’s programs and events. 

The Beta Gamma Sigma Dean of the Year Award is a merit recognition awarded to one outstanding dean who made significant contributions to the success of their chapter and supported the Beta Gamma Sigma mission throughout the course of the academic year.

Since 2000, Smart has served as dean and professor of marketing for the McCoy College of Business Administration. She has a Ph.D. in business administration (marketing) from Texas A&M University where she was recognized with a Texas A&M University Distinguished Teaching Award by the Association of Former Students. She holds an MBA from the University of South Dakota and a bachelor of science degree from South Dakota State University. She is a past president of the American Marketing Association Academic Division; the Southern Marketing Association; and the Council of Texas Business Deans. She currently serves on McCoy College Foundation board, the South-West Texas Border Small Business Development Center advisory board, the Austin Area Research Organization, and the Frost Bank community advisory board. She served two terms on the Beta Gamma Sigma board of directors.
