Texas State hosts conference on 2018 Mexican elections, U.S. relations

SAN MARCOS –Texas State University will host the Conference on 2018 Mexican National Elections and Future of U.S.-Mexico Relations on Thursday, April 5.

The conference will run 1-5:30 p.m. in the Wittliff Gallery on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library. The event is free and open to the public, although seating is limited. Visitor parking is available in the LBJ Student Center Garage.

The program will open with the keynote address by Judge Manuel González Oropeza, former magistrate for the federal electoral commission of Mexico. Other scheduled programming includes:

  • The Issues Facing Mexican Voters and Their Impact on U.S.–Mexico Relations

    Gustavo Vega Cánovas, secretary general, Colegio de Mexico; Katharine Donato, Donald G. Herzberg Professor of International Migration and director of the Institute for the Study of Migration, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service; Raúl Rodríguez Barocio, associate vice president for international affairs, Tecnológico de Monterrey; John McKiernan-González (moderator), associate professor of history and director of the Center for the Study of the Southwest at Texas State
  • Closing Session
    4-4:30 p.m.
    Ana Paula Ordorica, journalist and editor of Mexican newspaper El Universal, and host of radio program, Frente al Pais, will speak about the role of the press and the power of social media.
