The new issue of Hillviews is now available in print and digital format. The free digital issue is available at www.hillviews.txstate.edu.

The cover story — Destination Mars — is about some of the work that Texas State faculty and students are doing in partnership with NASA with the goal of reaching the red planet.

"The Bobcat Connection” is about how many Texas State graduates have found their career calling after fellow Bobcats have offered an introduction or some information on where and how they are making a living. Networking is something that Bobcats learn early, thanks to such things as Career Services, interning or university clubs.

The Texas State Department of Geography has a special relationship with the National Geographic Society (NGS) thanks to former editor and Chairman Gilbert M. Grosvenor. In 1985 Grosvenor created the Texas Alliance for Geographical Education at Texas State. This year, the university honored NGS as a Texas State Hero.

Also inside, meet women’s golf Coach Lisa Strom, a former LPGA golfer who joined the university in summer 2016; and Dr. Diego E. Vacaflores, an economics professor with a new book out this year. Among the alumni featured inside are Michael Abt, CEO of Huddle House, a chain of Southern comfort food diners; T. Paul Bulmahn, who moved from the oil and gas industry to thoroughbred race horses on a 2,600-acre training farm in Florida; Nancy May, a former banker who is now president of the San Antonio Humane Society; and the RGV Bandidas, three young women who are spending their free time as roller derby competitors in the Rio Grande Valley.

Hillviews, published three times a year, is distributed to members of the Alumni Association and the Family Association. The digital edition is available for free to everyone.
