President Trauth's statement on social media postings

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:

Recently, offensive posts directed at a Texas State student have circulated on social media. These posts contain clearly reprehensible content, and the university administration is investigating their origin. If a Texas State student is determined to be responsible for the postings, then the student will be subject to disciplinary action.

While this university is committed to the principles of free speech, it is also dedicated to fostering civil discourse, and Texas State does not tolerate communications that are threatening, harassing, or racially motivated. Our aim is to maintain a university environment in which faculty, students, staff, and visitors can feel safe while expressing themselves peacefully.

Sincerely,

Denise M. Trauth
President
