The Indian Student Association at Texas State University will host a Diwali celebration Saturday, November 14.

The event will take place in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom at Texas State at 6 p.m. It will feature a variety of Indian cultural experiences including Indian food, ethnic performances and henna tattoo booths. The event is free and open to the public.

Moonis Ali, advisor for the Indian Student Association and professor in the Department of Computer Science, said Diwali is a traditional Hindu celebration.

“People celebrate to worship the god of wealth, Lakhmi,” Ali said. “They celebrate the prosperity of the society and the people. People illuminate the whole country to show that light is very important to get rid of evil and promote happiness.”

The Indian Student Association is giving Henna tattoos on campus this week to raise money for the festival. Their booth will be set up in the Quad through November 10.
