Texas State University's "Pride in Action" capital campaign took in a record $151 million, President Denise M. Trauth announced Friday, Feb. 28, during a gala event celebrating the campaign's successful conclusion.

The campaign far exceeded the original goal of $110 million set at launch in 2006. More than 46,000 alumni and friends of the university contributed to the campaign, which was another record. Even more impressively, 85 percent of all funds raised are already at work at Texas State.

"We are thrilled that our Pride in Action campaign has been a stirring success, not just in the record amount of funds raised but in the extraordinary number of individual contributions to Texas State University," Trauth said. "These funds will continue enhancing the university for many years, creating a legacy of excellence.

"Texas State is fortunate to have so many thoughtful donors who recognize the vital role this institution has in preparing students to become productive members of society — and in helping our state prosper," she said. "The gifts to this capital campaign have had a remarkable impact on the evolution of this university, and improvements are visible in everything from new buildings and green spaces to scholarships and endowed chairs."

The Texas State campus has already benefitted greatly from the campaign, with new buildings, expanded green spaces, upgraded utilities and improved accessibility to create a more vibrant atmosphere for the entire university community. The impact of the campaign has been dramatic in the various areas to which the funds have been allocated:

  • $24 million has gone to expand cutting-edge research for faculty and students
  • $31 million has added world-class learning and athletic facilities to the university
  • $38 million has expanded scholarship opportunities for Texas State’s 35,000-plus students, enhancing prospects of student success
  • $57 million has strengthened academic excellence through faculty and program endowments

By virtually any measure, the campaign has been astonishing, surpassing expectations of all those involved. Breaking down the 46,000 contributors, 19 donors gave $1 million or more, 112 donors gave $100,000 or more and 25 gave planned gifts which will benefit Texas State in the future. Additionally, 45 percent of Texas State faculty and staff this year alone have contributed to the campaign--the highest percentage ever for the university, and more than 150 volunteers donated their time to make the Pride in Action campaign a success, providing valuable advice, identifying prospective donors and hosting functions to assist the university in reaching its goal.
