The Center for P-16 Initiatives at Texas State University will conduct its Sowing Education and Empowerment in Daily Speech (SEEDS) program--a creative and academic writing service to incarcerated youth at the Hays County Juvenile Center--through Aug. 24.

This marks the fourth consecutive year SEEDS has been implemented as part of the summer education programming at HCJC. The service is part of the diverse community engagement efforts of the Center for P-16 Initiatives, to prepare the most underserved youth in Texas to be college- and career-ready post-incarceration.

SEEDS is a linguistic-based curriculum that aims to train incarcerated students ages 12-17 to be critical thinkers, intentional speakers and creative writers of high quality. To date the program has served approximately 100 males and females from communities throughout Texas. At the end of each summer program the students’ writings are published in the latest edition of SEEDS: The Collected Writings.
