Computer Science to sponsor, compete in ICPC programming contest

The Department of Computer Science at Texas State University has announced its partnership with the Association for Computing Machinery – International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) of Asia and the joint sponsorship of a new international, collegiate competition.

The ACM-ICPC Asia-America Friendship and Texas State University Programming Contest will be held on Oct. 19 at Texas State and feature more than 15 teams from top universities in Texas, Mexico, Vietnam, China and Iran.

Teams will compete both on-site and online against one another as they attempt to solve challenging, real-world computer programming tasks. The fast-paced competition will last only five hours and pit some of the most technologically-creative students in the world, including those from Texas State, against one another.

Winning teams will receive certificates, prizes and travel scholarships to participate in other ICPC regional contests. Additional sponsors of the event include IBM, USAA Financial Services and Exxon Mobil Corp.
