The Mathworks program at Texas State University is now accepting applications for its 2013 summer math programs.

Interested students may apply online at www.txstate.edu/mathworks. The programs engage students in doing in-depth mathematics, focusing on the why's and how's of math. Mathworks summer math camps prepare all students to be problem-solvers of today while building solid foundations for the future. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, and alumni, Mathworks is able to provide need-based scholarships for a limited number of students. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. The three programs are:

18th annual half-day Junior Summer Math Camp, June 10-21

A two-week day camp for up to 200 4th-8th grade students, this program introduces young students to algebra and algebraic concepts. Mathworks can provide at least 100 scholarships to San Marcos CISD students who would like to attend. Partial funding for this year's JSMC comes from the KDK-Harman, Sid W. Richardson and Meadows Foundations, who are supporting the Mathworks Algebra Program (MAP) in place at Miller Middle School.

13th annual residential Junior Summer Math Camp, June 9-21

A two-week residential camp for 32 select 6th-8th grade students, this program provides higher-level opportunities for students seeking fun and challenging mathematics not offered in usual school curriculums. Students have the chance to live on the Texas State campus while taking classes taught by university professors. As part of the residential JSMC, Mathworks also trains a team of four students to compete in the Primary Math World Contest in Hong Kong later in July.

24th annual Honors Summer Math Camp, June 23-Aug. 2

A six-week residential program for 60 high school students, the HSMC nurtures reasoning and logic abilities, creative problem-solving skills and mindsets to tackle open-ended problems. Students are taught by professors, mentored by counselors and share the joy of mathematical discovery with their peers. Participants also learn all about the resources that a university has to offer while living on campus. The HSMC has been recognized more than 10 times by the American Math Society as being one of the top summer math programs in the country for young students.

For more than 20 years Mathworks has worked with students from across the state, nation and world, developing young minds to be the innovators of tomorrow.
