The School of Music at Texas State University will present the annual Trombone Ensemble spring concert Sunday, April 14, featuring Ron Ulen.

The concert will be 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium under the direction of Charles R. Hurt. The event is free and open to the public.

Ulen, baritone and a member of the Texas State faculty, will be featured in Modeste Mussorgsky’s "Songs and Dances of Death." An active and versatile performer equally at home on the opera, concert or recital stage, Ulen has performed more than 90 roles in nearly 2000 performances. His career has taken him to opera stages and concert halls around the world including those of Vienna, Rome, London, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, New York, Munich, Paris, Chicago and Berlin.

Joey Martin, piano, will assist on the Mussorgsky.

"Songs of Dances and Death," originally for baritone and orchestra, was transcribed especially for Ulen and the Trombone Ensemble by Hurt. The music of Andrew Fox, Irving Berlin and Rogers and Hammerstein will also be featured.

Parking is available in the Pleasant Street parking garage across from the music building. For additional information, contact Charles Hurt at (512) 245-3404 or via email ch07@txstate.edu.
