Texas State University-San Marcos School of Health Administration, along with the Pierce M. Williamson and Jeanette G. Williamson Foundation, will sponsor “Meeting the Challenges of Healthcare Reform in Long Term Care” on Friday, May 11 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The event will take place at Embassy Suites San Marcos, located at 1001 E. McCarty Lane in San Marcos. Registration is free and complimentary lunch will be provided to attendees.

The conference will feature a keynote address from Josefina Carbonell, former assistant secretary for aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As part of the Administration on Aging, Carbonell was part of an advocate agency for older Americans and their concerns. The agency helps prepare America to meet the challenges and to maximize the opportunities presented by the longevity of its people. Prior to her work with the agency, Carbonell served as president and CEO of Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers (LHANC) in Dade County, Florida, an organization she helped establish in 1972. Carbonell helped transform the one-site agency into the largest aging, health and nutrition project in Florida and the largest Hispanic geriatric health and human service organization in the nation.
