Texas State University-San Marcos and the Encore University Performing Arts Series will host Tapestry Dance Company Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium.

Tickets for the event are $15 for reserved seating and $5 for students and can be purchased online or at the door.

Tapestry Dance will be performing “The Souls of Our Feet,” a fast-paced collection of footwork that pays tribute to the rhythmic tap masterpieces of Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell as well as to contemporary works of living tap masters. The performance will feature live jazz music from the Souls of Our Feet Jazz Trio and include international solo artists Arthur Duncan and Acia Gray, among others.

Tapestry Dance Company is a professional, non-profit dance organization founded in 1989 by rhythm tap dancer Acia Gray and ballet/jazz artist Deirdre Strand for the purpose of developing a foundation in multi-form dance performances and education. The organization started out with a performing company of three, but has since expanded to a major dance organization in Austin. It is home to seven resident artists, a diversified administrative and production support staff and a pre-professional and adult training facility sharing the unique Strand and Gray training syllabus.

The Encore Performing Arts series is coordinated through the College of Fine Arts and Communication and compliments the university’s array of faculty and student offerings in the fields of art, music, theater and dance presentations and lectures.
