Janet Butler and Cecily Raiborn of the Department of Accounting in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University-San Marcos have been selected to receive two national awards for outstanding contributions to accounting literature by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).

Butler and Raiborn’s manuscript, entitled “Sustainability and the Balanced Scorecard: Integrating ‘Green’ Measures into Business Reporting” (co-authored with Cherie Henderson of the University of Texas at Arlington), was selected as the IMA’s outstanding article of the year. Their work will appear in the winter 2011 issue of Management Accounting Quarterly, and will be honored as the Lybrand Gold Medal winner at the IMA’s 92nd Annual Conference and Exposition in Orlando, Fla.

The Texas State faculty members have also been selected to receive the Lybrand bronze medal for their article, “Internal Control: The Lottery’s Ticket to Success,” that appeared in the September 2010 issue of Strategic Finance.

“I think this is the first time two authors have received two of the three Lybrand Medals in the same year,” said IMA Editor Kathy Williams. “I’m looking forward to (their) next article.”
