Texas State University-San Marcos will take part in RecycleMania 2011, a 10-week recycling competition between universities nationwide to see which can collect the most recyclables.

RecycleMania promotes recycling and waste management awareness by encouraging campuses to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The event takes place Jan. 23-April 2. This year Texas State is submitting weights for paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum and recycled cell phones for the RecycleMania contest.

The Texas State Recycling Program encourages all students, faculty and staff to make an effort to recycle, especially throughout the upcoming weeks. Located throughout campus are outdoor recycling receptacles for plastic bottles and aluminum cans. There are additional indoor recycling receptacles for plastic bottles, aluminum cans and paper. Cardboard boxes should be broken down and placed behind the roll carts designated for paper. For larger amounts of cardboard or paper, please contact the recycling center at (512) 245-7733 for a pick-up request or visit the website at http://recycling.facilities.txstate.edu/ for recycling pickup schedules and lists of items which may be recycled through the Texas State Recycling Program.
