Exercise physiologist to deliver Brennan and Smith Lecture

Russ Pate, professor of exercise science and vice provost for health sciences at the University of South Carolina, will present the Brennan and Smith Lecture 6:30 p.m. April 13 at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Pate will speak on “Policies to Promote Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents.” The lecture, sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Performance, will be delivered in room 157 of Centennial Hall on campus.

Pate is a world-renowned exercise physiologist who has published more than 200 articles on physical activity, fitness and their association with health in children. His research has been funded by the American Heart Association, the National Institute of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pate has also served on the U.S. physical activity guidelines advisory committee.

About the Brennan and Smith Lecture

The Department of Health and Human Performance annually invites two distinguished scholars to deliver a Brennan and Smith Lecture. These lectures address current and important topics in athletic training, exercise and sports science, health education, physical education teacher education, recreation, and personal fitness and wellness education. Funding for this lecture series was provided by the estate of Molly Ann Brennan. Brennan-Smith was a 1949 physical education graduate of Texas State who was influential in her service to education and research in the Houston area.
