Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli hosts dance symposium

Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli at Texas State University-San Marcos will host the “Texas and México: Bailes, Platicas and Talleres” dance symposium Sept. 18.

The symposium will be held in the Evans Liberal Arts Building on campus. All events are free and open to the public.

The symposium is a celebration of the historical trajectory of dance expression across our Texas/México border. Scheduled events include performances by Grupo Folklorico Mexicapan of San Antonio and Merge of Texas State at 11:30 a.m. and Grupo Folklorico Mexicapan, Grupo Folklorico Ochtochtli of Texas State, Ballet Folklorico de Guadalajara of Mexico and the San Marcos Elementary Folklorico Group at 5 p.m.

Lectures include "Dancing Across Borders" with Norma Cantu of the University of Texas-San Antonio and Olga Najera-Ramirez of the University of California-Santa Cruz at 2 p.m. and "Native American Contributions" featuring Mario Garza of the Indigenous Cultures Institute at 3 p.m.
