The Texas State University-San Marcos Writing Center’s literacy journal Words Work will host an open-mic night beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Coffee Pot Bistro.

The Writing Center and the Words Work journal team up once every fall and spring semester to bring an open-mic night to the Texas State and San Marcos communities. This semester is the first in which the event will be held off campus. Attendance is free and open to the public, and open-mic sessions will likely finish no later than 9 p.m.

“We’ve been getting a lot of attention and calls about the event,” said Words Work Managing Editor Ky Stevens. “Hopefully this will be a really good thing for both the journal and the Coffee Pot.”

Participants are given a maximum of five minutes to perform, and are encouraged to informally share poetry, fiction, prose, music, stand-up comedy, dance and other artistic projects.

The Coffee Pot Bistro is located at 129 East Hopkins St. in San Marcos, on the square. For more information, please contact the Texas State University Writing Center at (512) 245-3018.
