The Texas State University-San Marcos Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Choreographers’ Showcase” April 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on April 23 at 2 p.m.

All performances will be held at Jowers Studio 178, and tickets will be $5, cash only, at the door.

“Choreographers’ Showcase” is an annual event that features the work of students enrolled in advanced choreography, a senior-level course in which students implement the skills of casting, creating and rehearsing in developing a required choreographic piece. The choreographers’ showcase also gives students experience in the process of selecting accompaniment, costumes and lighting design.

This year’s showcase will include 11 dances representing a variety of styles and techniques. From light-hearted and fun to dramatic and serious, choreographers convey a range of moods and ideas in their work. Some participants use the opportunity to examine complex issues like spirituality and sociopolitical strife, while others simply explore elements of dance such as time, space and energy.
