Texas State University-San Marcos will host the Texas College and Career Readiness Chemistry/Mathematics Symposium II 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at Texas State's Round Rock Campus.

To better serve educators and reach a wider audience throughout the state, the symposium will be connected via video conference with the University of North Texas' Dallas campus. The goal of the event will be to address recent changes in the Texas Essential Knowledge Standards (TEKS) for chemistry and discuss the teaching of mathematics and chemistry.

“The topic we’re going to talk about is the alignment between math and chemistry standards,” said Deborah Koeck, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. “Chemistry in Texas has never been exposed to a high-stakes test, so it will be important for educators to know what kind of standards will be tested.”

Chemistry and math educators throughout Texas are encouraged to attend either the event in Dallas or the event in Round Rock.
