Texas State Allies host Dr. Marci L. Bowers

Marci Bowers, M.D., listed among 'America's Best Physicians', will speak at Texas State University-San Marcos during the Fall 2009 Allies of Texas State Biannual Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Presented by the Office of Disability Services and the Counseling Center of Texas State, Dr. Bowers will give the presentation: “Transcending Gender: Aligning Body and Mind” at 2 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center room 3-14.1 and at 7 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center Teaching Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Attendees will learn about the basics and challenges unique to transgender medicine, the surgical options available, and the long term health management strategies and challenges for transgender persons. Dr. Bowers will also provide tools so that all Texas State community members may have a better understanding and therefore be able to create inclusive environments fro the transgender community.

Dr. Bowers is listed among 'America's Best Physicians' and is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. She is one of the nation’s leading gender-related surgeons, specializing in sex reassignment surgeries. She has appeared on numerous television programs including Oprah and Discovery Health. Committed to healthy living, she is interested in alternative health solutions to compliment more traditional medical techniques.
