The Phi Iota Alpha Latino Fraternity at Texas State University-San Marcos will host filmmaker Roy Germano for a public screening of his documentary The Other Side of Immigration.

The viewing will take place Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center Teaching Theatre.

The Other Side of Immigration studies the topic of immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border and explores the issue from the perspective of people who come across looking for opportunities in the United States. Jose Robles, president, Phi Iota Alpha, said it is a perspective that many concerned with the debate don't often see.

"It's an opportunity for people to understand why immigrants come to the United States from Mexico's perspective and not the other way around," Robles said. "I hope the film will inspire people to think about possible solutions to these problems and get a better understanding of why people from Mexico want to come to the United States."

Attendees are invited to stay for a questions and answers discussion with the filmmaker following the 55-minute film. The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the community.
