Professor to discuss Hispanic children, exercise at annual conference

Texas State University-San Marcos professor of health, physical education and recreation, Tinker Murray, will present at the fourth annual Texas Conference on Health Disparities regarding "Exercise in Hispanic Children: Building the Culture."
 
The conference will feature a number of national experts from public health and health promotion. It will be hosted by the University of North Texas Health Science Center May 28-29 in Fort Worth. Murray's presentation will focus on preventive strategies and interventions for controlling obesity and diabetes in Hispanic and other minority children and adolescents.
 
"I will specifically discuss research programs in the San Antonio community that we have participated in that can promote a culture of increased levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity in youth," Murray said.
 
The conference features nationally recognized speakers with a specific focus on the disparities in health status between racial and ethnic minorities and the general population throughout Texas and the nation as a whole. A specific focus will be paid on preventative strategies in medicine, policy and community-based solutions.
