Employee Wellness Fair gets off to successful start

Planning is currently under way for the second Employee Wellness Fair to be held next fall at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Organizers say they expect the event to be even more successful than the first fair held recently, which attracted more than 350 Texas State employees to the LBJ Student Center Ballroom.

Exhibitors at 27 booths presented information on topics that ranged from flu shots to DWI simulation to hearing screening. Eight off-campus exhibitors joined the on-campus offices and presented information regarding health issues facing employees and their families.

Participating on-campus office exhibitors included: Educational Administration and Psychological Services, Health Information Management, Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management, Physical Therapy, Radiation Therapy, Alcohol and Drug Resource Center, Respiratory Care, Campus Recreation – Outdoor Center and Fitness, Human Resources, Family & Consumer Science—Nutrition and Foods and Consumer Sciences programs, Counseling Center, ITAC, Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, University Police, Student Health Center, Chartwells, and Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Off-campus participants included Riverbend Day Spa and Therapeutic Massage, Community Action, Hays County Health Department, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center, National Marrow Donor Program, Alzcare Assisted Living, Dr. David Jones—Cancer Care, and Blue Cross/Blue Shied.

Door prizes were given to 69 Texas State employees due to the generosity of the following donors: Alumni Relations, Athletics, Enrollment Management, Bookstore, Family & Consumer Sciences, Chartwells, ITAC, Student Health Center, Marketing, HPER, Riverbend Day Spa and Therapeutic Massage, Community Action, BC/BS, and Becky Smith—RMT.

The Planning Committee was composed of B.J. Friedman and Human Nutrition graduate student Arisa Cardenas from the Family and Consumer Science Dept., Carolyn Clay and interns Lauren Kocian and Sarah White from HPER, Debbie Chandler of the Student Health Center, Barbara Sanders of Health Professions, and Marsha Moore from the Professional Development Office.
