New Mexico tubist presents recital for tuba, horn and piano

Tubist Jim Shearer will present a recital of new music for horn, tuba and piano Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Music Building Recital Hall at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Shearer is a professor of music at New Mexico State University-Las Cruces. Martha Rowe, a professor at New Mexico State, and Shearer’s wife Celeste will accompany him.

The performance will feature the piece “Faraway Nearby” by Texas composer Lon W. Chaffin. Each movement of the music is based on a painting by Georgia O’Keeffe. “The Haunted America Suite” by New Mexico composer Justin Raines will also be featured.

The trio plan to record these pieces, along with others this Nov. for an album to be released with Summit Records.
