A major section of Sessom Drive from North LBJ to Loquat Street will be closed in both directions for repairs starting Monday, October 8 for about three days.

Two eastbound lanes on the steep hill on Sessom Drive have serious pavement damage and will be repaired, said Bob Ed Cochran, Street Division Supervisor.

“The extent of the damage requires us to close the entire street for this project,” Cochran said. “The pavement is falling to pieces and creating a traffic hazard.”

The project will require large equipment, resulting in the road closure. This is the first major street repair project of the City’s new fiscal year, which started Oct. 1.

Westbound traffic on Sessom will be open from University Drive to North LBJ only, with access available into the Texas State University main campus.

Drivers traveling further west will detour to North LBJ or Chestnut to Holland Street. Eastbound lanes on Sessom will be open from Holland to Loquat Street, and eastbound traffic will be detoured to Comanche Street south to Hutchison.

Texas State University, San Marcos school district, the CARTs bus system and the city’s emergency responders have been notified of the repair work and temporary Sessom Drive closure.
