Diana Harrell has been promoted to director of the Office of University Marketing at Texas State University-San Marcos. Harrell brings more than 23 years of combined experience in marketing and communications to the position.

During her 18-year tenure at the Texas General Land Office, Harrell held the titles of technical writer, network administrator, graphic designer and creative coordinator. She was responsible for the creative materials used in marketing the Adopt-A-Beach program, Buy Recycle, oil spill prevention and response, alternative fuels, coastal management program, border resources, veterans land board programs, historical map restoration as well as the Texas General Land Office. As the creative coordinator, Harrell oversaw the work of the graphic design section.

Harrell began her career at Texas State in Jan. 2001 as the publications coordinator managing the publications department. Since that time, she has performed the duties of assistant director of media relations and publications, interim director of publications and interim director of the office of university marketing.

During the past year and a half, Harrell and her team successfully implemented Texas State’s first integrated marketing plan. Under her leadership, the university’s identity and graphic standards have been strengthened, a new university web site has been created, publication designs have been enhanced, campus signage has been improved or introduced and a variety of statewide advertising projects have been initiated.

“Ms. Harrell’s energy, vision and professionalism have been central to our ability to move the marketing program forward,” said Michael Heintze, associate vice president for Enrollment Management and Marketing. “Her enthusiasm and collaborative manner have made her an instant hit with faculty and staff across campus.”

“I am honored to be in a position in which I can continue to help the university achieve its strategic goals,” Harrell said. “We have a talented team in University Marketing, and we look forward to working with students, faculty and staff to ensure that Texas State is truly the Rising Star of Texas.”
