Public invited to discuss problems on the Rio Grande

SAN MARCOS —An open public forum on the future of the Rio Bravo-Grande will conclude a three-day conference to be held Oct. 3-5 in Ciudad Juarez.
Over the first two days of Project Rio Bravo-Grande, 40 selected participants will work together to identify critical gaps in knowledge regarding the river. They will identify obstacles and prioritize problems that should be addressed in the future.
An open public forum will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Lucerna Hotel, Paseo Triunfo de la Republica #3976, Ciudad Juarez, to inform the public of the outcomes of the previous two-day workshop.
Topics to be addressed during the pubic forum will include:
• Hydraulics and hydrology
• Social, cultural, economic and political aspects
• Ecological, environmental and administrative aspects
• Integrated use of water resources
The public is invited to provide any additional input on issues related to the Rio Bravo-Grande basin. Public participants are also invited to submit comments in writing to:

The conference is a project of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and the River Systems Institute at Texas State University-San Marcos.
The workshop is seen as the first step in creating a binational, basin-wide approach to the development, management and sustainable use of the resources of the river.
