Texas State opens doors to students displaced by Katrina

Date of release: 09/06/05

Dear Texas State Family,

As you know, Hurricane Katrina devastated many parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Several universities in the most affected areas have suspended operations for the fall semester leaving thousands of students without a place to continue their studies.

In keeping with our tradition of service and commitment to students, it is appropriate that we assist as many of these students as possible. Consequently, I have authorized that we accommodate students from these areas who request admission to Texas State. I ask your support in helping these students complete the admissions, registration, advisement and financial aid processes in order that they may get settled in the community and attend classes as soon as possible. If you are contacted by any of these students, please refer them to either the Office of Admissions or The Graduate College.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we reach out to these students and families.

Sincerely,
Denise M. Trauth
President
