Jaime Chahin featured speaker at Colonia Conference

SAN MARCOS — Jaime Chahin, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Applied Arts at Texas State University-San Marcos, will be one of the featured speakers at the Colonias Information Conference Oct. 18 in Eagle Pass.

The conference, which will run from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College, will also feature Secretary of State Geoffrey S. Connor.

With more than 27 years of varied experience in education, Chahin has been an administrator for the last 16 years at Texas State and holds a tenured teaching appointment as an associate professor. His teaching experience began in 1972 as a Head Start teacher in Eagle Pass. Prior to that, Chahin was a senior policy analyst for the Select Committee for Higher Education in Texas. His awards and recognitions include fellowships, research grants and the "Ohtli" award from the Secretary of Exterior Relations of Mexico in 2002.

Presented by the Secretary of State and the Health and Human Services Commission, the Colonias Information Conference will bring South Texas city and county officials together with state and federal representatives to provide information regarding effective programs, funding opportunities and policy changes addressing educational, environmental and health and human service needs.
