Golf Gala lands a hole in one

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Swing into the spirit of golf and giving at the annual Celebrity Golf Classic Gala beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at the LBJ Student Center. Southwest Texas State University is hosting an evening of entertainment, cuisine and celebrities.

From former Cowboys and NFL Hall of Famer, Mel Renfro, to actor Steve Guttenberg, SWT is excited to host a medley of actors, actresses and athletes at this year’s gala.

SWT will host a small army of celebrities during the SWT Golf Classic weekend, including, former Dallas Cowboy and NFL Hall of Famer, Mel Renfro; legendary quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, Ken Stabler and actress and successful artist, Kellye Nakahara, who played nurse Kellye on M*A*S*H.

Tickets are $45 per person. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. with the music of Ann Cusak and the comedy of Brant Von Hoffman and Ron White.

Ann Cusak, known for her role on the Jeff Foxworthy show and Lifetime television show “Maggie”, is presently filming a pilot for CBS television to be aired in the Fall. Brant is a stand up comedian whose special guest, Ron White, is currently touring with Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Ingvall.

SWT’s own artist-in-residence, G.W. Bailey, will M.C. the evening with friends from the Police Academy movie series, Lance Kinsey (Proctor), David Graf (Tackleberry), and former nemesis Steve Guttenberg who played Mahoney among others.

A live auction, benefiting SWT Celebrity Classic scholarships, will follow the entertainment, with a trip to the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, a CD collection of all of George Strait’s recordings as well as a signed box set collection of George Strait CDs included in the many auction items. A silent auction will be held throughout the gala, featuring among many other items, two weekend trips to Horseshoe Bay Resort with two rounds of golf, more than $1,000 worth of shopping sprees from Prime Outlet in San Marcos and autographed memorabilia from celebrities such as a Roger Staubach football.

The Gala is one of many events that comprise the SWT annual Celebrity Golf Classic weekend. The weekend’s activities also include the Celebrity Comedy Scramble, which is open to the public, at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at the SWT Golf Course at Aquarena. The premiere event of the weekend, the SWT Celebrity Golf Classic, begins at 11 a.m., Monday, May 8 at the Colo Vista Club in Bastrop and tees off at 1 p.m.
