Smart named business dean at SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Denise T. Smart, associate dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has been named the new dean of Southwest Texas State University’s College of Business Administration.

Smart is former chair of the Department of Marketing at Omaha and faculty member since 1992. From 1978 to 1992, she taught marketing at Texas A&M. She has received awards for both her outstanding teaching and research, as well as articles she has written for professional journals. Active in many professional organizations, Smart has served as president of the Society for Marketing Advances (formerly the Southern Marketing Association) and the Allied Southern Business Association.

Smart earned her B.S. degree in home economics at South Dakota State University, her M.B.A. at the University of South Dakota and her Ph.D. at Texas A&M.

Smart succeeds Paul Gowens, who returned to full-time teaching and his role as NCAA faculty representative.
