The Future of Education Chautauqua at SWT

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — An educational consultant and an author will address The Future of Education, the third in a series of Chautauquas at Southwest Texas State University on March 10.

Sponsored by the university in observance of its Centennial celebration, and underwritten by H-E-B, the day-long event will be held in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom.

Deborah Estes, an educational consultant in the area of brain research, will speak at 9:30 a.m. on BYOB -- Bring Your Own Brain. Known for her warmth, humor and ability to involve everyone in the fun of learning, Estes holds a doctorate in educational administration and is a former high school teacher, middle school principal and curriculum director.

Geoffery Caine, who teaches philosophy and management at the University of Redland’s Whitehead Center for Lifelong Learning, will speak at 2 p.m. on the topic of Education Grounded in the Biology of Learning. He is the author of Making Connections: Teaching and the Human Brain, Education on the Edge of Possibility and Unleashing the Power of Perceptual Change: The Promise of Brain-Based Learning. He is a former law professor, manager of a national software company and director of the Mind/Brain Network of the American Society for Training and Development.

At 10:45 a.m. the SWT School of Education will present a program on SWT: Leading the Way in Texas Teacher Education, part of a presentation delivered in Chicago in February to the Association of Teacher Educators, which named the SWT teacher education program one of the three best in the nation.
