SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Gregory Gomez III has been named director of admission at Southwest Texas State University.

Gomez, 46, joins SWT after serving five years as director of admission at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

Gomez has spent 12 years in college and university admission. He has also been assistant director of admission at North Carolina A&T University and an admission counselor at Salem Community College in New Jersey.

“We believe Greg is the right person for this job,” said James Studer, vice president of student affairs at SWT. “He has strong ties to Texas, and he has excellent experience in the field of university admission. We’re happy to have him on the SWT team.”

Before beginning his career in higher education, Gomez served 11 years as an Army officer.

Gomez is a graduate of Victoria High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Houston at Victoria. He also holds a master’s degree in management from Webster University in St. Louis.

Gomez replaces Fernando Yarrito, who resigned as admission director at SWT to take a similar position at the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany.
