Dust off the welcome mats for Sunshine Kids

Date of release: 05/22/98

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — Months of preparation will culminate in an eight-day adventure for children from across the nation. The Central Texas area is encouraged to welcome the individuals to the community and participate in some of the public activities.

The ninth annual Sunshine Kids Texas Hill Country Adventure, sponsored by the City of San Marcos and Southwest Texas State University, will be held June 13-21.

The Sunshine Kids Foundation is a national, non-profit, volunteer organization, based in Houston, which provides positive growth activities for young people with cancer.

The community is invited to come out and meet the Sunshine Kids and participate in some activities with them. If you are on the San Marcos River Sunday, June 14, and see a flotilla of yellow-ballooned innertubes, be sure to say hello to these wonderful people.

If cheering is more your style, come out on Tuesday, June 16, and participate in the volleyball tournament beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Rec Center at SWT.

Finally, if the excitement and thrill of stock car racing is more your speed, then plan to spend the evening of Saturday, June 20, at Thunder Hill Racetrack in Kyle. The Sunshine Kids will be the special guests at the racetrack that evening.

Individuals, organizations or corporations may become a Sunshine Kids Pardner by sending their tax-deductible checks in the amount of $350 or more, made payable to The Sunshine Kids Foundation, to Fred March, Theatre Department, Southwest Texas State University, 601 University Drive, San Marcos, TX 78666.
